October

More cute photos of the Beanlet are up on Daddy's website here. As tempting as it was to get him a pumpkin costume from Asda, we resisted... but there is always next year ;)

12 Weeks

Finlay is 12 weeks old today! The time has flown by, and our little newborn is now a big hulking boy, who is awake more often than not, very vocal and incredibly active. His weigh-in yesterday was fun, with all the other babies, and he now packs a lovely 11lb 9.5oz. Not so much of a weight gain as 'usual', but with all the activity, sniffles and growing that's been happening, it's not surprising.

Mum found him a wonderful playgym recently, and he's been loving that.. lying down and whacking all the toys hanging from it, staring at himself in the mirror, and laughing. Some friends visited at the weekend, giving Finlay his Monkey, who stars in a few recent photos. Finlay LOVES his monkey. We hang him on the playgym, and he chews Monkey's paw, and grabs onto Monkey's legs, tail, and rings, hugging him tight in a Finlay-Hug-Of-Doom and giggling.

We bought a Bumbo recently, which we've decided he's now big enough to sit in. His head control has been fantastic since he was born, but it's now rock-steady, and so he is able to sit safely in the chair without any chance of floppiness. He LOVES his chair - he plays with his toes, looks around the room from a different perspective, and stares at the cats walking past.

Another big deal has been the move from his moses basket to the cot; he has a little doggy mobile, and lies in the cot staring up at the mobile. Although his sleeping during the daytime still isn't great, he will go down after a little cuddle to calm down, and a couple of minutes with the mobile. We've taken him to see a cranial osteopath, and since then he's been grumpy, but sleeping has been better during the day. Because of a very stressful pregnancy, he is rather tense, and she's been ironing out the resulting tension in his head and diaphragm. Hopefully it will work a treat, and reduce his possetting and make him sleep a bit better.

This weekend we're going to look at converting the pushchair to upright-mode, which will let him get a better view out into the world, especially now he's getting too long for the cocoon! Once we've sorted out some padding for the straps he'll be set!

And they all rolled over..

It's been a bit quiet on here (apart from all the photos); we're both fighting a nasty cold lurgy (still!) which seems to yo-yo between us, but we're nearly there. We had a lovely weekend in Sussex where I got to sleep whilst Finlay was well looked after and fussed over by the Singleton ladies, which was good for battery-recharge. We're meant to be down with the other mums for coffee right now, but figured there was no point passing on the lurgy to other babies.

Two big milestones for the Beanlet... firstly, he moved from the moses basket into his big-boy cot last night! He was growing out of the moses basket very fast, with fists hitting the sides when he flailed his arms around saying "I don't want to sleep, Mummy!!" He looks so little now in the huge cot. He's still in our room though, so we can keep an eye on him. We got him a rabbit comforter which he is more interested in during the day (we got a great reduced deal here), and he's now in his sleeping bag - having outgrown the miracle blanket. He does tend to kick off any sheets or blankets, so the sleeping bags are wonderful, though his hands do get very cold!! (any ideas?). We've given up on nightshirts, so he's now on 3-6mo sleepsuits as he is so long! His night-time sleeping is great, but we have to tackle the daytime naps, as he is far too interested in what's going on to sleep! Even doing some gardening with me the other day didn't tire him out, so he was a real mess come bedtime!!

The other big step is that Finlay is now rolling over consistently from his tummy to his back. He did it a couple of weeks ago on the bed, but now can do it on the floor. There is no preferred direction, but he hoiks his leg up and bench-presses on one side, and rolls over and giggles. We even managed to get it on video yesterday, when Daddy came home. Clever boy!! He's a lot more interactive and talkative... he has several 'words' he repeats, though not sure what he means sometimes!! He talks (shouts!) especially loudly when I am on the phone... "look at meeeeee, mummy!!". He loves being talked to, and is a very smiley little boy! And I am sure there is a bit of pre-teething going on... a lot of bubbles being blown, chewing on my finger (it hurts.. there are some sharp little teeth coming through!) and general crankiness.

Finlay's growing so fast.. only about 2 weeks until his 3month 'birthday' - scary!

(oh, almost forgot.. there's also the standing up! He can stand up on your lap if you hold his hands. Yep, VERY scary!!)

11 bags of sugar..

Finlay weighed in at 11lb 1oz, and 56cm long at his 10 week visit to the health visitor. Compare that to 6lb 8oz and 51cm long at birth!! He's now jumped a percentile, and whilst still not heavy for his age, he's getting there. Currently he's batting at his toys on the activity arch, and chatting quite happily. I've got a new cameraphone, so the quality of the photos should improve considerably! I will work out how to post up video on his site soon...

Oh, and I am POSITIVE he said "hewo" and "mumumum" earlier... or something very close. I'd put it down to babbling but he said both things several times, shouting at me when I was on the phone... scary stuff!!! Two words I use a lot with him...

..and they all rolled over..

I put Finlay on his tummy this morning, for his 10 minutes of TummyTime before his nap. He pushed himself off the floor, his head held up straight, smiled, and then rolled over onto his back!! This boy is moving WAY too fast!! He giggled cos he thought it was very, very funny...

Two Month Photoshoot

We tried to take a few pictures of Finlay for his Two Month milestone. We took about 40 photos at least.. but he's such a wriggly little monster, we only got a couple of good ones. They're right here.

Two Months

It's hard to believe, but Finlay turned Two Months Old today. Where has the time gone?! He's grown so fast, almost out of his 0-3month babygros and onto the next nappy size. He's exploring his hands, and his reaching for objects has got a lot more steady and deliberate (and he misses less often). He is 'talking', cooing and shouting to be heard (especially when in bed under protest!), and smiling on 'demand', giggling and laughing when we talk to him.

He's sleeping a lot less, staying awake for about an hour after a feed, playing in his bouncy chair with his toys and chatting back to David and I. His focus has always been brilliant, but now the world has expanded for him, as David found out when waving his hands around far further than normal (Finlay watched him intently). We've been giving him little bursts of TummyTime on his big mat, which he loves.. holding his head up off the floor really well. It tires him out fast, but that may be because he still isn't 100%.

His cold is still very snotty, and he's having trouble feeding as he can't breathe through his nose very well, so it's back onto a 2hr cycle still so that he can take in enough food during the day. Except for when we give him Calpol at the end of the day to ease his discomfort, when he tends to sleep for about 6hours in one go. Although I don't like dosing him up, the hospital prescribed it, and it obviously makes him feel so much more comfortable, allowing him to sleep for more than 20minutes-1hour at a time. We've also put Olbas oil on a tissue in his moses basket (which he's nearly grown out of!) to clear his poor nose.

We'll have a quiet week, getting back into a routine after the disruption of hospital (every time he fell asleep they came to poke him for one test or another). Also I don't want any other babies to get this lurgy, or for Finlay to pick up anything else whilst his immune system is down. He's due to have his immunisations tomorrow, but they may have to wait until he's back on the ball.
